Egg immunoglobulin IgY is the functional equivalent of IgG in man and in chickens, it is stored in the yolk of egg. Chickens have the ability to store numerous antibodies against diverse protein antigen and nature allow them to store IgY in yolk.
Eggs are “super-food” loaded with nutrients, some of which are rare in the modern diet. Egg yolk are rich in protein, which can help fight immune related problems. Egg contain zinc and selenium which are important minerals that help boost the immune system.
LIFA advocates for daily egg consumption especially during this COVID-19 pandemic. We advocate for inclusion of eggs in food palliatives distributed to vulnerable communities.
