There have been numerous debates about the workability of curfew and lockdown initiated in Nigeria in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The concern is that majority of Nigerian population are informal sectoral workers who essentially live from hand-to-mouth. The absence of reliable databases of individual and family incomes, traceable home and business addresses make it nearly impossible to effectively deploy government palliatives to those who really need them.
It is with this opinion that the Livestock Industry Foundation for Africa (LIFA) initiated neighborhood corporate social responsibility..The initiative was supported by LIFA members in the diaspora and it was aimed at assisting families and neighbours during the lockdown and curfew period owing to the effect of COVID-19 pandemic.
A token of #2000.00 (Two thousand naira only) was distributed to 60 families within Ibadan and Ondo state to ameliorate the stress posed by the lockdown.
LIFA continues to advocate for the inclusion of eggs in food palliatives distributed by private individuals and government. Cash palliative will also ensure that other ends of essentual needes are met.
