LIFA PRESENTS GROUNDBREAKING RESEARCH ON POULTRY MARKET DYNAMICS AT THE 3RD PAN-AFRICAN POULTRY CONFERENCE IN SOUTH AFRICA

Livestock Industry Foundation for Africa (LIFA) proudly participated in the 3rd Pan-African Poultry Conference, held from 22nd to 23rd September 2025 in South Africa. Representing LIFA, Dr. Stephen Adejoro, President and Founder of LIFA, presented a groundbreaking research paper titled:

“Comparative Analysis of Day-Old Chicks Sales in an International Poultry Market (Broiler and Cockerel), South West of Nigeria.”

This insightful paper examined the economic structure and trade dynamics of day-old chicks (DOCs) within one of Nigeria’s most vibrant poultry trading hubs the Obasanjo International Poultry Market. The study compared the sales trends of broilers and cockerels, analyzing how market demand, price variations, and hatchery distribution systems influence poultry farming outcomes and regional market stability.

Speaking during his presentation, Dr. Adejoro emphasized the importance of understanding market patterns to ensure profitability and resilience for small- and medium-scale poultry farmers.

The poultry market in Nigeria serves as a microcosm of the larger agricultural economy,” Dr. Adejoro explained. “By studying the comparative trends between broiler and cockerel chick sales, we can identify critical gaps in market access, cost efficiency, and input supply that directly impact farmers’ productivity and sustainability.”

He further added that data-driven approaches like this study can support both policymakers and investors in strengthening the poultry value chain.

Evidence-based research is key to transforming Africa’s livestock systems,” he said. “When we understand the economics of our markets, we empower local producers to make smarter decisions and enable governments to create policies that sustain growth.”

The findings show the need for improved market regulation, enhanced hatchery distribution networks, and strategic policy interventions to stabilize DOC prices and enhance access for rural poultry farmers.

LIFA’s participation at the Pan-African Poultry Conference reaffirms its long-standing commitment to knowledge dissemination, evidence-based advocacy, and capacity building for sustainable livestock development. The conference also provided an excellent platform for collaboration with researchers, veterinarians, policymakers, and agribusiness stakeholders across the continent.

At the close of the event, LIFA was awarded a Certificate of Participation, recognizing its valuable contribution to the advancement of poultry science and livestock innovation in Africa.

“We dedicate this achievement to every poultry farmer and stakeholder working tirelessly to feed Africa,” Dr. Adejoro concluded. “At LIFA, we remain committed to promoting sustainable livestock growth and sharing knowledge that transforms lives and communities.”
